Known for its delicious fare and friendly atmosphere, this delightful spot has quickly earned a reputation as a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts and coffee lovers alike. From a casual breakfast to a cozy afternoon treat, the cafe captures the essence of what makes dining enjoyable.
As you step inside, you're greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, where every detail reflects a love for good food. The star of the show, however, may very well be the desserts. Gurkha Paul raves about the luscious almond orange cake—moist and flavor-packed—a testament to the care put into each recipe. And let’s not overlook the sublime chocolate cookie, perfectly chewy with an exquisite dark chocolate taste that leaves your palate singing.
Coffee aficionados are bound to be impressed by the rave reviews, with Daniel James proclaiming it to be "the best coffee in Keswick." The attention to detail in coffee preparation is evident, ensuring each cup is brewed to perfection, serving up rich flavors whether it be oat milk or regular milk.
The Elm Cafe experience extends beyond delightful food and drink. With a casual ambiance and a friendly staff, the visit feels personal and welcoming. Lucie Graham, a regular patron, highlights the diverse menu catering to both vegans and vegetarians. Their evening menu adds an exciting twist, with new offerings each Saturday. Plus, their selection of natural wines and craft beers elevates the experience even further, making it a fantastic spot for winding down after a day of adventure in the Lake District.

“ After climbing 4 flights of stairs to get to the cafe after a long walk, thank the cake and cookie we bought were as good as Elm’s reviews suggested they would be The chocolate cookie had just the right chewy texture, strong dark chocolate flavour with a hint of salt. The almond orange cake was super moist and you really could taste the advertised ingredients. Very dog friendly and you can do a bit of shopping on the way down through George Fisher. As you can see it was quiet just before closing time. ”
“ Beautiful new little cafe in Keswick, cakes were amazing and the coffee tasted great! Would highly recommend! Very friendly staff and even allow pets. ”
“ Undoubtedly the best coffee in Keswick, and the best coffee we had in our trip to the Lake District. Milk in the coffee was perfect (oat and regular) - perfect temperature, not burnt or cold. ”
“ Lovely Café serving very tasty bites to eat and supper fresh beverages (coffee, tea etc). The Asian mushrooms on sourdough was a very delicious and attractive dish, would highly recommend. Also, the lemon and white chocolate cake was beautifully balanced - not to be missed. Surprisingly, the tea was from loose leaf tea, a rare treat to find these days. Although I would highly recommend Dilmah Golden Pekoe loose leaf tea to go with any cake. Nice views form the window made this a great place for a light lunch and a drink. We will be back! Thank you ”
“ My favourite place in Keswick. I’m here most days, so I’ve worked my way through about 90% of the menu. The coffee and matcha are always a solid 10/10, and there’s a great range of fresh juices to choose from. A slice of cake is an absolute must, and everything I’ve tried has been fresh and flavourful. The atmosphere is casual and laidback, with friendly faces behind the counter every time. On Saturdays, they’ve recently started offering an evening menu, offering something new and exciting each week. There’s plenty of choice for both vegans and vegetarians, sweet and savoury. They also serve natural wine, cider, and craft beer, which is a definite bonus. Great drinks, great food, great people — can’t recommend it enough. ”
“ The best little cafe in Keswick. We’ve gone several times when it used to be inside George Fisher, and this trip was our first visit to the new location. We went twice - I had the avocado on toast the first time, and the breakfast royale the second. Both were absolutely delicious, but the breakfast royale sandwich was something special! Elm cafe also has the best coffee in Keswick by far. Already looking forward to our next visit. ”
“ Fantastic! Visited the new location today and it was just as good as we remember from our last visit in November when Elm were in George Fisher. The flat white is the best coffee I have ever had, I’m no expert but like to frequent various coffee shops and now know what I like. There’s also no extra charge for dairy milk alternatives which is refreshing, thank you and please don’t ever change that! So pleased the Asian Mushrooms are still on the menu. I recommend them, so good. And the orange and almond cake is very nice too! We recently moved to the lakes and having Elm cafe nearer is definitely something we were looking forward to and will be making the most of when we pay Keswick a visit! Only slight negative would be I’m not sure if there was a toilet inside? I didn’t see a sign but I also didn’t ask as I wasn’t desperate. ”
“ Fantastic little place that serves great breakfasts. The overnight oats and avocado on toast in particular are lovely. Definitely recommended. ”
